Teen girls – deaf and hard of hearing
Join us for 2 sessions to connect with other deaf and hard of hearing teens through ice breaker games and cooking and then explore the area of mentoring younger deaf and hard of hearing children through preparing for and attending our Play in the Park sessions for 0-6 yr. and 7-10 yr. old’s who are also deaf or hard of hearing.
Goals
- Deaf identity – connecting with others who are deaf or hard of hearing in a fun and supportive environment
- Teamwork – Working together to cook, plan and mentor
- Self-advocacy – exploring together the challenges of communication in different environments and sharing strategies to overcome these hurdles
- Device management – an opportunity to explore how to explain your hearing loss and devices to others
WHEN:
Thursday 21/01 – 9.30 am – 12.30 pm Frankston Clinic
Friday 22/01 – 9.30 am -12.30 pm Frankston Clinic
PLUS – Friday 22/01 – optional mentor opportunity, 12.30 pm – 3.30 pm George Pentland Gardens
5-hour program held over 2 days (2 ½ hrs per day) $450 (plus optional mentoring– no charge)
